Removals to London

Whether you’re coming from the next county or the far end of the country, a move to London is a long-distance job with a careful city finish — and it’s exactly what we do. Here’s how it works, wherever you’re starting from.

Removals to London aren’t like a local move. The distance is only half of it; the other half is the arrival — the permits, the ULEZ, the tight streets and the lift bookings that make the capital its own kind of job. We handle both ends: a careful pack and load wherever you’re starting, a planned run down the motorway network into the M25, and a London finish that’s been sorted before the van turns up.

Most long moves come in on the big roads — the M1, M6, M40, M4, M5, A1(M) and the rest — funnelling into the M25 and then into North, East, South, West or Central London. For a long haul, we’ll talk you through whether a full load or a shared load suits what you’re moving. Below is the country, region by region, and how each one comes into the capital.

The North to London

M6 / M1 / A1(M)

Moving to London from the North is the classic long haul, and we run it constantly. From Manchester, Liverpool and the North West it’s the M6 down to the M1 and the M25; from Leeds, Sheffield and Yorkshire it’s the M1 all the way, or the A1(M) on the eastern side; from Newcastle and the North East, the A1 or the A19 to pick up the motorway south. It’s a long day’s drive, so we plan the timing to land in London when the streets are workable rather than at rush hour.

For a move this far, a shared load often makes sense if you’re not filling a lorry — your goods travel with other moves heading to London, which keeps a long haul sensible. A full load runs to your own schedule. Either way, one team packs you in the North and unpacks you in London, so nothing changes hands on the way down.

The Midlands to London

M6 / M40 / M1

From Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton and the Black Country, or Nottingham, Leicester and the East Midlands, the run into London is shorter but no less busy — the M40 down through Oxfordshire into west London, or the M1 into the north. It’s close enough that many Midlands-to-London moves happen in a single, well-timed day.

The Midlands is also where a lot of career moves to London start, so we see plenty of first-flat and young-professional moves alongside families relocating for work. Whatever the size, the plan is the same: a careful load in the Midlands, a straight run down, and a London finish that’s already been thought through.

The South West to London

M4 / M5 / A303

From Bristol and Bath it’s a straightforward run up the M4 into the west of London. From Devon, Cornwall and the far South West it’s longer — the M5 up to the M4, or the A303 across Wiltshire past Stonehenge — a proper long-distance move that rewards good planning. We time it so the tail end doesn’t hit London at its worst.

The South West sends a steady stream of people to London for work and study, often leaving a house for a flat, so downsizing and storage come up a lot on this route. We can hold what won’t fit at the London end until you’re ready for it.

Wales to London

M4 / A470

From Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and the South Wales valleys, the move to London runs over the Severn and straight along the M4 corridor into the capital — one of the cleaner long runs, motorway nearly the whole way. From mid and North Wales it’s further, picking up the M54 or the A470 down to the motorway network.

It’s a well-trodden route for us, and a friendly one — plenty of people move from Wales to London for work and come back often, so we make sure the leaving end is handled as carefully as the arriving one.

Scotland to London

M74 / M6 / A1

Scotland to London is the longest of the UK hauls, and it’s planned as exactly that — a serious long-distance move, not a quick hop. From Edinburgh, Glasgow and the central belt it’s the M74 and M6 down the western side, or the A1 down the east, to reach the M25 and the capital. Driving hours and overnight timing are part of the plan from the start.

On a move this long, the survey matters even more, so the load, the vehicle and the schedule all fit the distance. One team travels with your things the whole way, and the London end — permits, access, lifts — is arranged before you arrive.

The South Coast to London

M3 / M23 / A3

From Brighton and the Sussex coast it’s the M23 straight up into south London; from Portsmouth, Southampton and Hampshire, the M3 or the A3 into the south-west. These are shorter moves, often done in a day, but the London end is just as tight — so the value is less in the miles and more in the arrival.

The coast-to-London move is a common one, whether it’s heading into the city for work or a family shifting closer in. We keep it simple and well-timed, with the London access sorted ahead of the day.

East Anglia to London

A12 / M11 / A11

From Norwich, Ipswich and the Suffolk and Norfolk coast, the move into London runs down the A12 or the A11 to the M11 and into the east and north of the city. From Cambridge and the Essex edge it’s a shorter run down the M11. These roads bring you naturally into the eastern boroughs, which shapes where the London finish lands.

East Anglia to London is a steady route for us, with a good mix of family moves and people heading into the city. As always, the leaving end and the London end both get planned properly.

The London end

What we sort at the London finish

ULEZ, across all of Greater London

The Ultra Low Emission Zone now covers the whole of Greater London. Our vehicles are sorted for it, so it never becomes your problem on moving day.

The central Congestion Charge

If your new home is in the central zone, the charge and the timing get built into the plan — no surprises, no scramble.

Parking permits & bay suspensions

A removal van needs somewhere legal to sit. Where a street needs a permit or a suspended bay, we help arrange it ahead of the day.

Red routes & narrow streets

Red routes, one-ways and narrow Victorian streets shape where the van goes. We plan the load-in around them rather than chancing it.

Mansion & tower-block logistics

Lifts, loading bays, porters and booking slots come with the territory. We square the building’s rules before we arrive.

Conservation-area care

In conservation areas and listed streets, access can be fiddly and protection matters. We treat both with the care they need.

Home, business, and moves from abroad

Whatever’s moving, the offer’s the same: full home removals into the capital, business and office relocations, storage for when the dates don’t line up, and careful packing for the distance. And if your move to London starts on the Continent, our international moves to London bring households in from France, Italy, Spain and Portugal — customs and all.
